Growing Through Experiences

Medical Intern for the Day

Our fifth-grade students had a Medical Day in which they traveled to different classrooms, where teachers had set up activities for each rotation to learn about the body systems.

  • A child dressed as a doctor holds a handmade model of the heart and lungs, explaining blood flow.
  • A smiling child dressed as a surgeon holds a cutout of a patient with math problems on a sign.
  • student dressed in PPE

Ecosystems

Our students dove into the fascinating world of ecosystems. Working together in groups, they built their own ecosystems, exploring how plants, animals, and their environments interact and depend on one another. This hands-on activity not only sparked curiosity but also encouraged teamwork and critical thinking.

  • Students observe aquatic life in clear containers during a classroom science experiment.
  • Five smiling children pose together in a classroom, holding a science experiment.
  • Two children examine a science experiment in clear containers with water and plants.

Ascend Program

China Grove Elementary School’s Ascend Program, an inspiring male mentorship initiative, brought together district mentors and their fourth- and fifth-grade mentees for a formal Thanksgiving luncheon at the Wallace Building. Dressed in ties and collared shirts, the mentors and their buddies enjoyed a beautifully set meal with white tablecloths and fancy plates, served by Ms. Lisa Altmann and her amazing nutrition team. It was a heartwarming time to share good food, practice manners, and strengthen these meaningful mentor-mentee friendships just in time for the holiday season.

  • A man in a blue shirt and tie and a boy in a vest and tie sit at a table, eating a meal.
  • Three men and three boys stand together in a hallway, all dressed formally.
  • A man helps a young child tie a bright blue tie over a white shirt.
